De Guindos: Cannot be super optimistic on EU growth

It is not possible to be "super optimistic" on the European economy at the moment, European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos said during an event in New York on Thursday.

However, De Guindos noted that he believes it is likely that growth increases in the second half of 2019. He also added that Germany has enough fiscal space to respond to an economic downturn and also added that the ECB can always go back to quantitative easing if need.

De Guindos previously commented that the Eurozone is "not immune" to economic sentiment spillovers from other world markets and that manufacturers in the Eurozone are struggling with a slowdown in foreign demand.
