De Guindos: Risks in Eurozone increasing

Risks in the Eurozone are increasing and the area's outlook is "again tilted to the downside," European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos said on Thursday.

Speaking in Madrid, he stated that fiscal stimulus must be the focus of policymakers in the euro area. De Guindos said: "A dedicated centralized fiscal capacity would not interfere with domestic policy. By focusing on common area-wide stabilization it need not affect national fiscal space but rather provide an additional layer."

Earlier, the central banker said that inflation must be kept close to the ECB's target rate. He also called on states with enough maneuvering space to boost expenditures.
