Dems blame budget talks fail on Trump 'interference'

Top congressional Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer stated they did not reach an agreement with the administration on budget negotiations. The talks centered on levels of federal spending in the new fiscal year set to begin on October 1.

"Without interference from the president, we could come to a good agreement much more quickly," Pelosi and Schumer said. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced the White House will propose a one-year debt ceiling hike if Congress cannot reach an agreement. He added that President Donald Trump intends to avoid another government shutdown resulting from a lack of government funding.
