Dems, GOP to introduce bipartisan bill on Turkey sanctions

United States Democrats and Republicans said they will introduce a bipartisan bill to impose sanctions against Turkey in response to its military operation against Kurds in Northern Syria.

"I strongly condemn both President Erdogan’s decision to attack America’s partners in Syria and President Trump's decision to step back and let it happen," House Foreign Affiars Committee Chairman Eliot Engel (pictured) stated and called Ankara's operation a "gift" to Russia, Iran and the Islamic State (ISIS). Meanwhile, Republican Michael McCaul claimed the offensive is a threat to global security as it could "enable ISIS resurgence."

Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin noted President Donald Trump is ready to hit Turkey with "powerful sanctions," while the Senate already presented bipartisan legislation calling for "severe sanctions" on Ankara.
