Dems reach compromise on unemployment benefits

Senate Democrats reached a consensus on unemployment benefits after West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin (pictured left) had concerns about an earlier deal.

"We have reached a compromise that enables the economy to rebound quickly while also protecting those receiving unemployment benefits from being hit with (an) unexpected tax bill next year," Manchin announced and added the jobless benefit supplement in the amount of $300 per week will continue "through the end of August."

The Senate is expected to begin voting on the proposal and a series of other amendments to the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill, before voting on the stimulus package.
