Denuclearization timeline to depend on US-N. Korea talks - Moon

South Korea's President Moon Jae-in said in an interview with the BBC released on Friday that the timeline of North Korea's denuclearization will depend on Pyongyang's negotiations with the United States. "That is because North Korea is demanding the US take corresponding measures," he noted.

Moon stressed that, in addition to shutting nuclear facilities and halting missile and nuclear tests, North Korea's complete denuclearization must also include giving up its existing weapons and added that Pyongyang agreed to such conditions. According to the South Korean president, North Korea "promised that it has no reason whatsoever to possess nukes while facing difficulties, such as sanctions, as long as the safety of their regime is guaranteed."

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump are set to meet for the second time after the US midterms in order to discuss the issue of denuclearization. In September, Kim vowed to permanently shut down the Dongchang-ri missile test site in the presence of international experts and close the Yongbyon nuclear facility if the US takes corresponding measures.
