'Difficult' COVID decisions to come - French minister

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin spoke to France Inter radio station on Tuesday and stressed that French people "have to prepare for difficult decisions" concerning stricter counter-measures against the alarming surge in COVID-19 cases.

According to French officials, many hospitals are at a critical point and might face substantial operational problems unless the numbers of daily infections and hospitalizations stabilize to figures lower than the current ones. Therefore, an expansion to the existing curfew cannot be excluded, despite the concerns of the market that a general lockdown could press the national economy really hard.

French media reported that President Emmanuel Macron held a meeting with ministers on Tuesday, considering the possibility and the expected side-effects of a lockdown at weekends.
