Disney accepts raising wages in Florida to $18 an hour
Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, reached an agreement to increase the minimum wage for its workers from $15 to $18 per hour by the end of 2023. The move will make Disney World the highest-paying tourism employer in Orlando once the deal is ratified next week.
According to the local newspaper Orlando Sentinel, the Service Trades Council Union coalition announced on Thursday that they also agreed with Disney to raise the hourly pay for full-time employees by $5.50 in the next five years.
"This is a historic contract settlement. Both sides should feel proud of the hard work that went into it, and for our members, this will increase their quality of life," stressed Eric Clinton, the president of the Unite Here Local 362 labor union.
