DoJ seeks to unseal FBI search warrant on Trump

United States Attorney General Merrick Garland underscored on Thursday that the country's Department of Justice (DoJ) has made an appeal to the judge to publicly release the search warrant used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to raid US Former President Donald Trump's residence in Mar-a-Lago property in Florida earlier this week.

"The search warrant was authorized by Federal Court upon the required finding of probable cause," Garland said, adding that the DoJ had asked for the "search warrant" and "property receipt" to be publicly disclosed due to "substantial public interest in this matter." Garland stressed he had "personally approved" the court order on the day of the investigation.

The attorney general declined to further comment on the case and reveal any information regarding the cause of the investigation. The probe into the former president's residence is thought to have been based on "mishandling presidential documents," including classified documents that Trump is believed to have taken when leaving office.
