Dow closes above 35,000 pts for first time

United States major equity markets ended the last trading session of the week with gains as the Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 reached all-time high benchmarks intraday. Investors focused on technology companies amid earnings season that so far has set a positive trajectory.

The Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus is still among concerns as cases have risen across all 50 states of the country and are 65% higher than over the previous week. US private sector activity continued to grow in July, but at the slowest pace in the past four months. Meanwhile, manufacturing PMI rose to a record high level.

The Dow was up 0.68% at the closing bell with Visa gaining 2%, while the S&P 500 jumped 1.02% as Robert Half International advanced by 7.40%. The Nasdaq 100 rose by 1.15% led by Moderna soaring by 7.84%. The euro remained flat against the dollar with only 0.02% in the green and trading for $1.17726 at 3:58 pm ET.
