Dow closes over 900 pts in red as virus fears persist

Shares on major United States markets closed deeply in the red territory on Wednesday as the resurgence of the coronavirus pandemic in the country seemingly adversely affected the market sentiment. Investors will also await the latest quarterly figures from Amgen, eBay, Ford, Gilead, Pinterest and Visa after the close.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 3.43%, or 940 points, at the close. Microsoft led the losses, decreasing by 4.96%. The Nasdaq 100 fell by 3.93% as the trading session closed. DexCom declined the most, 8.28%. The S&P 500 dropped 3.52% at the closing bell as C.H. Robinson Worldwide plummeted 11.45%.

The euro was 0.42% lower compared to the dollar to change hands at 1.17463 at 3:59 pm ET.
