Dow drops 100 pts premarket with virus in focus

Major stock markets in the United States traded lower in the premarket on Friday as fears about the COVID-19 continue to grow. The country reported a new record-high rise in daily infections, forcing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to cancel all big events in the city. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump said the US is "well on the way" to create a vaccine and treatment for the coronavirus.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 0.40% or 102 points at 4:30 am ET. At the same time, the Nasdaq 100 lost 0.36%, while the S&P 500 fell by 0.34%.

The euro gained 0.05% against the dollar to sell for $11.12910 at 4:27 am ET.
