Dow drops over 300 pts as virus worries weigh on stocks

Shares on stock markets in the United States started the session on Monday in the red, with the Dow Jones tanking over 300 points amid growing worries over the coronavirus pandemic.

A total of 45 US states have reported an increase in weekly COVID-19 cases, while governments in Europe have begun introducing more stricter measures to contain the virus, sparking worries about the prospects of economic recovery worldwide.

The Dow dropped 301 points shortly upon the start of the session in New York with Boeing among the worst performers. At the same time, the S&P 500 lost 0.93% as toymaker Hasbro plunged over 7% on the release of the company's third-quarter earnings. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 sank 0.72%; Marriott International fell over 3%.
