Dow extends gains, rises nearly 200 points

The Dow Jones jumped nearly 200 points during the session on Tuesday after briefly falling more than 100 points earlier.

Adding to the positive sentiment, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported earlier that 70% of all adults in the United States have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine. Meanwhile, earnings results also supported the rise in major indices, with shares of drugmaker Eli Lilly surging over 5% after the company said sales of its diabetes drug Trulicity rose 25% to $1.54 billion.

The Dow was up 191 points at 11:51 am ET as IBM and 3M led the gains. At the same time, the S&P 500 climbed 0.47% while the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.27%.
