Dow falls 388 pts at close as economic uncertainty grows
The United States stock exchanges closed with sharp losses on Tuesday as investors digested the latest reading on the country's consumer confidence, which showed further weakening in September, as well as house prices and new home sales data in the United States.
The negative sentiment seemingly grew after Target decided to shut down 9 stores over safety threats, while Amazon was slapped with a lawsuit by the Federal Trade Commission.
The Dow Jones plunged 1.14% or 388 points at close as Apple decreased 2.34%. The Nasdaq 100 decreased 1.51% or 223 points, while The S&P 500 was down 1.47% with Cintas Corp dragging both indexes down by 5.27%.
The euro was down 0.21% against the dollar at 3:58 pm ET, exchanging for $1.05705.
