Dow falls over 100 pts ahead of Amazon earnings

Markets in the United States closed mixed on Thursday amid major corporate earnings. All eyes are on Amazon, who is set to report results just after the closing bell, as well as Intel, Ford and Starbucks. Tesla had a rough day following the release of the company's disappointing earnings which revealed a fall in demand this past quarter. This earnings season also saw Microsoft hit a $1 trillion market cap for the first time, making it the third company to reach that value.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 134 points led lower by 3M whose shares plunged nearly 13% after the company posted worse-than-expected first-quarter results. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 finished the session flat, while the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.42%. Facebook was the top performer on the tech-heavy index, soaring 5.85% on the social media giant's financial results.
