Dow gains 100 pts as traders await trade deal signing

Traders' hopes were propped up on Wednesday by the imminent signing of the long-awaited phase one trade agreement between the US and China scheduled for later in the day.

Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin revealed that tariffs on Chinese goods would not be canceled before the second stage of trade talks kick off, confirming earlier media reports.

The agreement will be published in its entirety upon the signature at 11:30 am ET.

The Dow Jones jumped 104 points or 0.36% at 9:54 am ET after a lukewarm start of the session. The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.39% at the same time, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.33%.

The euro rose 0.21% on the US dollar, changing hands for 1,11538 at 9:57 am ET.
