Dow gives up gains as optimism fades
The Dow Jones Industrial Average index declined to negative territory on Thursday and the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 pared gains. Traders were initially encouraged by the idea that the Federal Reserve may opt for a reversal in its monetary policy later this year but the upbeat sentiment that pulled the Dow Jones up by nearly 500 points earlier in the day seemingly lost steam as the session went on.
The Dow Jones lost 0.06%, while the Nasdaq 100 rose by 0.92% and the S&P 500 increased by 0.11% at 2:34 pm ET.
The euro was 0.08% lower than the dollar, going for 1.08647 a minute later.
