Dow opens 250 pts lower after jobs data

Wall Street opened the last session of the week in the red after nonfarm employment in the United States increased by 263,000 in September. Since the labor market seems undisrupted by the Federal Reserve's monetary policy tightening, investors expect the central bank to keep raising interest rates and maintain that policy at least throughout 2023.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index opened 0.88% or 270 points lower as Intel dropped 4.08% at 9:46 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 lost 1.81% at the start of trading and the S&P 500 decreased by 1.13% at 9:30 am ET. AMD led the losses at both indexes with a 7.48% fall at 9:33 am ET.

The euro was down 0.35% compared to the dollar at 9:29 am ET and changed hands for 0.97571.
