Dow plummets 800 pts on virus fears, recovery bill worries

The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged more than 800 points on Monday, as the rising number of daily infections in the United States and an apparent standstill in the coronavirus relief package negotiations contributed to the negative sentiment among traders.

Adding to the virus uneasiness among investors, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that COVID-19 could spread via air droplets, and not only through interpersonal contact as was previously thought.

The Dow Jones sank 3.03% or 840 points at 10:36 am ET, while the Nasdaq 100 dived 2.09% at the same time. A minute later, the S&P 500 was down by 2.58%. The euro concurrently lost 0.87% versus the dollar, selling for $1.17364.
