Dow plunges 700 points premarket amid COVID-19 fears
Stocks in the United States extended losses in premarket trading on Friday with the Dow Jones plummeting over 700 points as the coronavirus continued to weigh on stocks. COVID-19 continued to spread worldwide with the number of cases in the US reaching 233 and the death toll from the disease hitting 12. On a global scale, over 98,000 people have been diagnosed with the virus and 3,390 died from it.
The Dow Jones dropped 2.72% or 714 points at 5:39 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 plunged 3.09% at 5:41 am ET and the S&P 500 slid 3.10% at the same time.
The euro rose 0.66% against the dollar to sell for 1.13005 at 5:47 am ET and the pound added 0.27% compared to the US currency to go for 1.29957 at the same time.
