Dow suffers worst day in 2021, falls 900 pts at close

Dow Jones Industrial Average index closed with a 905-point nosedive in its worst trading session of 2021 on Friday amid a market selloff triggered by reports of the discovery of a new coronavirus strain. Concerns about possible lockdowns, alongside already-introduced travel restrictions worldwide, seemingly drove down the sentiment across multiple markets. The trading session was shortened on Friday after the United States observed the Thanksgiving holiday yesterday.

The Dow Jones declined by 2.53% at the close with American Express falling 8.58%. The Nasdaq 100 was 2.09% down as the trading session ended. Pinduoduo was its worst performer after tumbling 15.86%. The S&P 500 dropped 2.27% at the closing bell as Royal Caribbean led the losses with a 13.22% plunge.

The euro was up 0.85% compared to the dollar to change hands at 1.13020 at 12:59 pm ET.
