Duolingo gets $30M from Alphabet, hits $1.5B valuation

Language-learning startup Duolingo said on Wednesday it has reached a valuation of $1.5 billion after receiving $30 million from Alphabet Inc's growth equity investment fund CapitalG. The total amount raised in the most recent Series F funding round was $138 million.

Duolingo smartphone application has become the most downloaded and most profitable education app globally, it noted, reaching 30 million active learners. The ad-free paid version, Duolingo Plus, costs $6.99 a month.

"Duolingo has been adding users and revenue at an impressive pace, continuing to solidify their position as the #1 way to learn a language globally," said Laela Sturdy, General Partner at CapitalG.
