DUP threatens to cut support to May if she breaks her NI pledge

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) Brexit spokesman Sammy Wilson threatened on Friday to end his party's confidence and supply deal with the United Kingdom government led by the Prime Minister Theresa May if she doesn't honor her promises considering the post-Brexit status of Northern Ireland.

Wilson hinted that the party would likely not support a Brexit deal such as the one outlined in a leaked letter sent by May to DUP leader Arlene Foster, which would leave Northern Ireland in EU's customs union and single market under a no-deal scenario. The spokesman said that the DUP is "more disappointed than angry" at the approach taken by May, adding that a large number of issues from the letter have cause an alarm within his party regarding the integrity of the UK. However, Wilson expressed hope that the DUP would be able to turn May around.

Earlier today, it was reported that the EU plans to draw a customs border in the Irish Sea in case of a no-deal Brexit, which would avoid a hard Irish border but at a cost of leaving Northern Ireland under EU's regulatory rules.
