ECB leaves key interest rates unchanged, boosts stimulus

The European Central Bank (ECB) decided on Thursday to keep key interest rates unchanged as the interest rate on the main refinancing operations remained at 0.00%, while the rates on the marginal lending facility and the deposit facility stood at 0.25% and -0.5%, respectively.

However, the ECB announced it will increase its pandemic emergency purchase programme (PEPP) by €600 billion to a total of €1.35 trillion and noted the PEPP will be extended at least until June 2021.

The bank will also continue net purchases under the asset purchase programme (APP) at a monthly pace of €20 billion, as well as "the purchases under the additional €120 billion temporary envelope" until the end of 2020.
