ECB looks into buying more EU-issued bonds - report

The European Central Bank is looking into increasing its limit on purchases of European Union-issued bonds, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the aim of the move is to allow the central bank to be more flexible in its asset-buying schemes. Moreover, it would also enhance the EU's joint debt programme launched last year.

The report indicates that four ECB governing council members would support increasing the cap of public sector bond purchases from the current 10%, but it takes the majority of the ECB council to approve the measure.
