ECB might raise regular QE after PEPP ends - Muller

European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council Member Madis Muller stated on Wednesday that the central bank might raise regular quantitative easing once the Pandemic Emergency Purchase Program (PEPP) ends.

Muller also predicted that the ECB will be able to end PEPP in March next year, in line with previous projections from the central bank. However, he noted that the flexibility offered by PEPP cannot be transferred to the Asset Purchase Program (APP).

In recent days, ECB officials have been commenting quite frequently on the future of asset purchases, with some saying that they will remain crucial after the pandemic ends, while others suggesting that some recalibration might be needed.
