ECB's Lane: Underlying inflation measures may gradually ease

European Central Bank (ECB) Chief Economist Philip Lane stated on Wednesday that measures to fight inflation may decrease if particular components show a downward trend.

Speaking at the annual conference "The ECB and Its Watchers XXIII" in Frankfurt, Lane remarked that the decrease in inflation is based on the assumption that wage growth will reach its highest point this year.

He went on to underline the importance of energy cost reversal as it would help alleviate underlying inflation, echoing the belief shared by ECB President Christine Lagarde at the same event.
