Economists expect rate cut from Fed in September - survey

Around 70% of economists believe that the United Stated Federal Reserve will cut interest rates by September, a Wall Street Journal survey that consulted 46 experts showed. However, only two economists stated they think the next times rates will be lowered will be next week's June meeting. Some 40% believe the cut will take place in August, while 30% said the Fed would decrease interest rates in September.

CME Group's Fed Watch Tool put the probability of a rate cut in June at 24.2%. However, around the tool that shows sentiment among traders in futures markets put the chances of lowering rates in July at 84%. Meanwhile, chances that interest rates remain at current levels in September are only 5.8%

The Fed's benchmark federal funds rate has been at 2.25% to 2.5% since December.
