EIA: US crude inventories down by 2.5 million barrels

Crude oil inventories in the United States decreased by 2.5 million barrels to 428.5 million barrels in the week ending January 10, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported on Wednesday.

US crude oil refinery inputs averaged 17 million barrels per day, up by 76,000 barrels per day from the previous week. Refineries operated at 92.2% of their capacity, while gasoline production improved, averaging 9.3 million barrels per day.

Imports of crude oil in the US averaged 6.6 million barrels per day, down by 179,000 barrels per day from the previous week. Total commercial petroleum inventories rose by 14.5 million barrels.
