Engel: Congress rejects military intervention in Venezuela

Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Eliot Engel emphasized on Wednesday that Congress would not support military intervention in Venezuela despite President Donald Trump's "saber-rattling."

"I do worry about the president’s saber-rattling, his hints hat US military intervention remains an option. I want to make clear to our witnesses and to anyone else watching: US military intervention is not an option," Eliot underscored. However, he added that lawmakers support the administration's stance on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. "We should reject authoritarians regardless of ideology," he stated in his opening remarks at the Committee's Venezuela at a Crossroads hearing.

Meanwhile, humanitarian aid could enter Venezuela on February 23, opposition leader and self-proclaimed president Juan Guaido said earlier as the country struggles with widespread shortages of food and medicine.
