EPA aims for tougher regulations for coal plants

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced on Monday it plans on introducing more stringent rules for coal-fired powered plants in an effort to reduce water pollution.

Namely, the EPA is aiming to roll back some of former President Donald Trump's decisions from last year that allowed coal plants to use cheaper technology when treating wastewater that often includes toxic materials like arsenic and lead.

However, the agency said it will take several years to write the new regulations, meaning the Trump-era requirements will remain in forces for some time to come despite pleas from environmental protection advocates.
