EU advises members to focus on sustainable jobs

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen advised on Wednesday the European Union's member states to focus on "easing the transition from crisis-job-support [introduced to fight the negative economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic] to creating sustainable future-proof jobs."

Von der Leyen said the bloc's new program, Effective Active Support to Employment (EASE), aimed to "assist and enhance these [aforementioned] efforts" as "this year will be all about a recovery that creates new jobs." She added the Commission would also present an update of its Industrial Strategy to "help Europe's industry and its workers to thrive in the green and digital transitions."

Von der Leyen's latest remarks come after she announced the bloc was working on a Single Market Emergency Instrument to "avoid future disruption" in the bloc's economy in situations similar to the ongoing pandemic.
