EU approves new Russia sanctions over Navalny

The European Parliament approved on Thursday a resolution calling for additional sanctions on Moscow over the alleged poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny with a Novichok agent.

The resolution demands the launch of an independent investigation into the case that would be carried out by the European Union, the European Council, the United Nations, and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Russia previously denied the allegations made by the EU, the UN, NATO, the G7, and the United States it was behind the poisoning of Alexey Navalny and accused those parties of using the case as a political tool against Moscow.
