EU car registrations grow 21.7% in December

The new European car registrations number grew for the fourth consequent month as it grew 21.7% in December 2019, European Auto industry association (ACEA) said on Thursday.

All EU countries, including the five big markets, posted solid growth rates in December. Germany recorded the highest rise at 5%. France followed with 1.9% as demand in Italy grew by 1.9%. Demand fell in Spain and in the United Kingdom by 4.8% and 2.4% respectively.

The report shows that because of higher car taxes, pending to go into effect in 2020, car sales in some EU countries such as the Netherlands and Sweden grew by 113.9% and 109.3% respectively.
