EU gives UK 1 month to withdraw Market Bill draft

European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic insisted on Thursday the United Kingdom government must withdraw measures introduced in the Internal Market Bill draft by the end of September.

"If the Bill were to be adopted, it would constitute an extremely serious violation of the Withdrawal Agreement and international law," Sefcovic stated following the meeting with British Minister Micahel Gove, explaining that London has "seriously damaged" its relationship with Brussels.

The Brexit Withdrawal Agreement entered into force on February 1 and has legal effects under international law, the official statement noted, stressing that the EU won't hesitate to activate mechanisms granted by the document.
