EU in talks with US over cross-travel for vaccinated tourists

The European Commission confirmed on Monday that Brussels had started technical discussions with the United States government on shaping a system of open travel for American citizens vaccinated against COVID-19 to the European Union countries.

"We want this to happen as soon as possible," commission spokesman Eric Mamer said, adding that the final agreement would have to be based on "a robust system" and confident improvement in the "epidemiological situation" in Europe and the US.

Earlier, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that "All 27 [EU] member states will accept, unconditionally, all those who are vaccinated with vaccines that are approved by the European Medicines Agency".
