EU industries 'suffering' due to chip shortage - Breton

European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton said on Friday that the European Union is "suffering in many areas" due to the semiconductor shortage, especially in the automotive industry. "In the industrial strategy, we have to make sure that the supply chains, especially for clean industries, will be sustainable," he said, adding he is "pushing hard" to restore the chip supply.

Breton said China has started stockpiling semiconductors, creating disruption in the EU. "We need to increase our autonomy in specific areas, and this is what we are working on now," he asserted.
