EU insists on orderly Brexit - Merkel

German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated on Friday that the European Union will continue to insist on an orderly Brexit. Speaking at a press conference in Brussels at the summit of the European leaders, Merkel pointed out that the EU27 made it repeatedly clear to London that a disorderly exit from the EU is unacceptable and that efforts have to be made to avoid it.

Merkel reminded that Brussels wants to be helpful to the United Kingdom and that details of the future relationship still have to be outlined, which she already addressed with Prime Minister Theresa May as the deal on the table is the only possible and the best deal.

Meanwhile, May earlier stated that, based on her talks with European leaders, the EU wants to get the Brexit deal "over the line" and have it approved by the UK House of Commons, preferably before January 21.
