EU ministers discuss COVID-19 prevention

In an emergency meeting in Brussels on Thursday, European health ministers from the 27 member states were holding talks on how to prevent the COVID-19 virus (a member of coronavirus family) from further spreading all around Europe.

COVID-19 is a close cousin to the severe acute respiratory syndrome and Middle East respiratory syndrome viruses that have caused outbreaks in the past. The newest outbreak was very hard to contain because it took a while for doctors to recognize that they were dealing with something very different.

Meanwhile, the commissioner for crisis management Janez Lenarcic assessed the danger of COVID-19 spreading further as "low, but it may increase." In order to mitigate the risk of virus spreading, many countries have implemented travel restrictions on recent visitors to China, which has more than 99% of the world’s reported infections. So far the COVID-19 has taken more than 1,300 peoples' lives with 60,347 confirmed infected with the disease.
