EU raises coronavirus risk to high - Von der Leyen
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday that the European Union decided to increase the risk the coronavirus poses from "moderate" to "high."
Speaking at a press conference, Von der Leyen also announced the EU is establishing a Corona Response Team which will focus on tackling the virus. The team will consist of Janez Lenarcic, who will be in charge of crisis management, Stella Kyriakidesis in charge of all health issues, Ylva Johansson in charge of border-related issues, Adina Valean in charge of mobility and Paolo Gentiloni in charge of macroeconomic aspects.
The announcement comes as the COVID-19 continues to spread across the continent with Italy as the most affected country with over 1,700 confirmed cases, followed by Germany and France where 150 and 130 people have contracted the disease, respectively.
