EU seeking new Russia sanctions by February 24

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday that the European Union would like to see new sanctions against Russia by the war anniversary on February 24.

Von der Leyen, who's on an official visit to Kiev joined by EU's foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell, was reported by AFP as saying she discussed new sanctions against Russia with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During the visit, she also called for tougher measures against Moscow over its continuous war efforts in Ukraine.

Kiev said earlier that the discussions would also cover Ukraine's efforts to join the EU as well as the post-war recovery.
