EU to extend Russian sanction by 6 months - report

The European Union is expected to extend its economic sanctions on Russia by six months, as the union shifts towards a more hardline approach to Moscow, Tass reported on Friday.

Citing a source familiar with the matter, EU leaders agreed that there no "significant progress" was made on the implementation of the Minsk agreements and that tensions between Russia and Ukraine have escalated, particularly with the increased military presence at the border back in April. Moreover, the measure to extend the sanctions was reportedly unanimously passed.

Earlier, it was reported that the EU was thinking of adding new sanctions on Russia, despite efforts from some within the bloc to ease tensions. Meanwhile, Russia has sent mixed signals on its relations with the bloc, calling for more dialogue while blasting the bloc's approach towards the country.
