EU trade surplus at €4.8 billion in August

Euro area trade surplus amounted to €4.8 billion in August, according to the first estimate by Eurostat released on Friday. In the same month, the entire European Union (EU27) registered a trade deficit of €5 billion.

Exports of goods from the Eurozone to the rest of the world stood at €184.3 billion in August, up 18.2% year-on-year, while imports soared 26.6% on a yearly basis to reach €179.5 billion. Intra-Eurozone trade surged 21.2% from August 2020 to €155.5 billion in the same month in 2021.

EU27 exports grew 18% annually to €164.7 billion in August, while imports came in at €169.8 billion in the same month, jumping 31.8% compared to August 2020. Intra-EU trade amounted to €247.8 billion in August 2021, 18.9% higher compared to the corresponding month the previous year.
