EU will closely watch Brexit debate - Fox

United Kingdom Trade Secretary Liam Fox said on Thursday that the European Union will be "seriously listening" to the Brexit debate in the House of Commons scheduled for later today. The official told the BBC that if the vote doesn't pass the British parliament, a wrong signal will be sent to Brussels.

"I think that our European partners will be watching to see, if they make those concessions, do they think that parliament would be likely then to pass that agreement?," Fox said. "We have to be very aware that this is not an academic debate. It is listened to quite seriously by those who will be negotiating with the UK," he pointed out.

Earlier this week, the UK's Labour Party decided to back the so-called Cooper amendment to postpone Brexit for a few months, in order to avoid a scenario in which London would depart from the EU without a deal. Meanwhile, European Council President Donald Tusk called on London to propose concrete plans and measures regarding its divorce from Brussels.
