EU will not renegotiate NI Protocol - Sefcovic

The European Union will not negotiate again the terms of the agreed-upon Northern Ireland Protocol, EU Chair of the Joint Committee with the United Kingdom Maros Sefcovic (pictured) claimed on Wednesday.

Sefcovic issued a statement, explaining that the protocol needs to be implemented in order to uphold "peace and stability" in Northern Ireland, and also preserve "the integrity of the EU Single Market."

The British officials hinted earlier that abandoning the protocol entirely is a possibility. Should that happen, Brussels maintains the right the suspend parts of the EU-UK trade deal reached in December, which could result in a broader trade dispute between London and the bloc.
