Euro area GDP rises by 0.2% in Q3

The seasonally adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) in the euro area in the third quarter of 2018 increased 0.2% compared to the previous three months, according to a report released by Eurostat on Friday. In the whole European Union (EU28), the quarterly GDP growth stood at 0.3%.

Annually, the seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 1.6% in the Eurozone and was up by 1.8% in the EU28 compared to the July-to-September period in 2017. Among member states, the largest growth in the third quarter was observed in Malta, where GDP grew by 3.6%, while negative growth was recorded in Lithuania, down 0.3%, Germany and Sweden, both down 0.2% and Italy, where the economy shrank by 0.1%.

The report also showed that employment rose by 0.2% quarter on quarter in both the Eurozone and the EU28 in the three months to September.
