Euro area producer prices up 1.4% in January

Producer prices in the Eurozone (EA19) rose 1.4% in January month-on-month, while remaining flat compared to the prior year, Eurostat reported on Wednesday. In the whole European Union (EU27), the figure was up 1.4% versus December and 0.2% vs January last year.

The energy sector prices again saw the biggest increase, climbing 3.5% in the EA19 and 1.2% in the whole bloc. Intermediate goods prices grew 1.2% and 0.4% respectively, while capital goods and durable consumer goods advanced 0.4% in both areas. Prices in non-durable consumer goods were up 0.1% in the Euro area and in the EU27.

Producer inflation increased in all member states in January, with the biggest hikes being recorded in Ireland, Spain, and Denmark.
