Euro area retail sales increase by 5.7% in June

The seasonally adjusted volume of goods sold in retail in the Eurozone (EA19) was 5.7% higher in June in comparison to May, Eurostat said in an estimate published on Wednesday. In the entire European Union (EU27), the volume rose by 5.2% month-on-month.

On a calendar-adjusted basis, the retail sales moved up 1.3% in both the euro area and the entire bloc, the report noted. In the Eurozone, the volume of retail goods sold jumped 20.4% for automotive fuels and 12.1% for non-food products, while food, drinks and tobacco decreased by 2.7% compared to the figures recorded in May.

Ireland led the monthly and annual volume gains at 21.9% and 10.2%, respectively. Austria experienced the largest decrease in retail sales in monthly terms, 2.5%, while Bulgaria had the biggest annual drop, 18.1%.
