Euro area retail sales up 0.2% in October

The seasonally adjusted volume of goods sold in retail in the Eurozone (EA19) was 0.2% higher in October in comparison to September, Eurostat said in an estimate published on Friday. In the entire European Union (EU27), the volume rose by 0.3% month-on-month.

On an annually adjusted basis, the retail sales increased by 1.4% in the euro area and by 2.3% in the EU27, the report noted. In the Eurozone, the volume of retail goods sold grew 1.3% for automotive fuels and 0.4% for non-food products, while it declined 0.1% for food, drinks and tobacco compared to the figures recorded in September.

In October, Slovenia led monthly and annualized gains at 13% and 34.3%, respectively. On the other hand, Latvia experienced the largest drop in retail sales in monthly terms of 5.4%, while Germany had the biggest annual decrease of 2.8%.
